Leading expert for many years
Even though times are constantly changing, one thing has remained the same at the Buchholz Group: The demand for the highest quality and reliability. "Made in Germany" is both a distinction and an obligation for us. We have been manufacturing knives and wear parts in Germany for well over 100 years. With a lot of know-how, technology and passion.
Firmenchronik
The foundation stone
An entire century marked by changes in world history. During the German Empire, from the late 1890s onwards, the political and economic climate within the German Reich was considered good. This was one of the reasons why STEINSTOSSER decided in 1904 to lay the foundations for a company that is now celebrating more than 100 years of existence.
New branch office
Karl Buchholz, the son of Fritz Julius Buchholz, and the company name STEINSTOSSER are born. STEINSTOSSER is registered as a trademark in the HRB and the change of name to Fritz Julius Buchholz is completed. Fritz Julius Buchholz comes from an old family of gymnasts.
Patent registration
Fritz Julius Buchholz registers his first patent with the invention of a special circular planing saw.
Time of war
After a further small expansion of the company, the ongoing development is interrupted in July 1943. With the destruction of the residential building, the dispatch department and part of the business premises, 75% of the company is destroyed. The office is relocated to the residential building. Production is resumed, sometimes under the most difficult conditions.
50th anniversary
50 years of ups and downs are over, and the company is entering a new, hopeful era with its 50th anniversary.
The new build
Hans and Peter Buchholz join the company and become personally liable partners shortly afterwards. The new administration building is equipped with modern social and dispatch rooms.
Reconstruction
The beginning of the 1980s also marks the start of a new manufacturing era. The company expands, e.g. with the purchase of the first CNC machining center. The focus of production is now on the manufacture of knives for the recycling industry.
Rotary shear blades
Karl Buchholz, the son of the company founder, dies. At the same time, the production of large rotorary shear blades for shredders begins.
Former building before conversion
The former Schmolz und Bickenbach building before the conversion.
After the conversion
STEINSTOSSER buys the building "Auf dem Langefeld 1". In September 1994, the conversion and new construction of the company begins on the Schmolz und Bickenbach site. A short time later, the company moves into its new premises. In 1996, the grinding shop is modernized and expanded to the latest state of the art.
100th anniversary of the company
In addition to a big celebration, the stone throwing championship ("Steinstossen") is also held to mark the 100th anniversary.
New management team
Alexander & Patrick Buchholz take over the management of the company.
Acquisition of KWT
Fritz Jul. Buchholz takes over the traditional company KWT. The company is incorporated into Steinstosser.
Schmachtenberg Qualitätswerkzeuge
Gebr. Schmachtenberg, a globally market-leading traditional manufacturer of shear blades and hammer axes in Cologne, is taken over by Fritz Jul. Buchholz and continued as "Schmachtenberg Qualitätswerkzeuge".
Relocation to Remscheid
Schmachtenberg Qualitätswerkzeuge also moves into the company building in Remscheid. The joint production increases the performance of both companies.
Brand launch
Steinstosser and Schmachtenberg complete a brand launch and now appear with an online store and a joint logo.
